I am sick to death of people saying top spin 3 will not be that good without a line up only a billoinarie could afford. Look at the first top spin most of the players had retired or were past it but the game interms of gameplay was very very good and recieved very high scores in reviews.
Now look at virtua tennis 3, on the mens side the line up was very good but the gameplay was something you would have expected a last gen game to have not a next gen game and there for it wasn't really that good. My point is you don't need every top player out there (even though it would nice) for a game to be great.
Hey if you need proof the game has already scored 9.0/10 in the offical xbox magazine with a so called poor roster.

If PAM and 2KSports were really interested in creating a realistic Tennis Simulation Game they should know that not only are the controls, graphics,etc important, but also the # of players availible. They should have at least the Top 25 Men and Woman in the Game. Its nice to finally have a good simulation Tennis game, but due to the poor line up of players, this game comes off short in the end. Until there is a Tennis game that has all Top 25 men and women I will not be satisfied.

The fact that they say the players are difficult to reach and come to an agreement with to appear in the game is just an excuse. I wouldn't see the problem of having a Djokic, Feller, Davymenko, etc. with the exact same attributes, looks, signature moves of the real players... I remember some old football games whithout license players who did that.
It's pure lazyness or lack of budget to work more on the game. They put fictional players but who are not inspired by real players and that's a shame.
I hope the game is good at least.

They should add all the current top 30 players (men) and give them their generic shots for their all around game, then create the next 70 going up to the top 100 as the real players but give then a set shot from around 5 or 6 options its pathetic that they cant get more players because if you look at football games they have all the teams on, FIFA even has up tp League 2. There isn't much to it. If you started your own video game website, you could actually contact companies to review games. I know some people who have started gaming sites just to get in to the E3 game expo. It helps to live near the developers office though. It's not like I would be buying a plane ticket for it.

I´m sure bryan will ask about the signature styles if he notices e.g the same groundstroke for several players.

u should still ask about wimbledon because we haven´t seen any footage yet. so this is really uncertain because I don´t think that review is reliable.

and of course about the downloading content. maybe which players they´re planning to make available.
and in addidion to that you could name the most imporntant ones. I think you all agree that djoko is the player we wanna see in the game urgently.

those are the most important questions to me.

but you could still ask about the demo release date or the grunts.

I´m so happy that finally a guy we can trust(if they offer you money for writing a positive review please refuse to take it ;)) will play the game and write a review.

so do the best job you can do on that review and have lots of fun playing it. looking forward to your review...

Mabey you should ask about the players grunts, why they are so wrong :O? also the ball striking sound i find realy messed up, but that might just be me. But the biggest issue i think is the animations thats the one you realy need to get to the bottom of. Try to confirm if some players realy are useing the same stroke animations cus that would be...low.

Actually that's a realistic feature. In different stadiums, because of the shading, players will look darker/have darker hair, etc. She is a blonde in the game. I am working on getting a screen shot for that. I wanted to do this because it's actually really neat that the game would do this.

I think its better their offerin Legends rather than regular player rosters to be honest. I mean come on most of us make our characters anyway modelled on for example Safin, Hewitt, Moya etc. It would be great to introduce those players which we know so little about and rarely get to play with on consoles. Can you imagine playing with Andre Agassi, provided they model him perfect in terms of looks and gameplay? I think its excellent what their doing, but as for the DLC not being provided to PS3 users, i am quite sure they will in the future

actually it now has Wii and DS as 23rd and 360 and PS3 as 22nd. lol. Maybe ronnie is not correct about the dates. or maybe he thinks everybody on the forums is from the USA. Realistically a person with his job wouldnt know the shipping details and the specifics of when each version was shipping exactly, or whether or not the small tweaks are really just better localisation for the USA (gameplay is never changed with 4 weeks til launch). Also Top Spin 2 came out in Australia alot earlier than anyone expected (a few weeks earlier than most countries) so i wouldnt be surprised.. If u really want the game and u live in PAL terrritories i would be checking your local retailer by phone every 2nd day or so after the 20th May.

EB Games Australia have just changed the release date from 23rd May for Xbox 360 and PS3, and 20th May for DS and Wii. To the 22nd May for all platforms. Why would they change the date so close to release unless it was the true release date.

I think we would have to see further evidence of the signature styles being way off to be honest. Like bryan said, perhaps these videos dont feature the updated gameplay. From what i saw however, it looks promising so far, taking into account that there are some flaws with the groundstroke game. I have a really strong feeling that Top spin 3 will live up to its bill, and be the best out of the 3 installments. Thinking optimistically will result in an optimistic outcome ;), just read the Secret by Rhonda Bryne and youll understand :=P

If your a casual I don't think you'd notice how off Roddick's serve is, and its not completely off. I'd say its around 70% correct. But I don't really care if they get his serve perfect or not because there are some "signature styles" which are way off.

I would have to disagree with the people who are claiming Roddicks serve to be disappointing and " looks like he is giving birth ". That is clearly not the case, as it can be clearly noticeable in his match versus Becker on teamxbox.com that his service action is absolutely perfect. So no unecessary nitpicking, from what I have seen, Roddicks serve is bang on, although we will have to see more videos to be sure if the statement of "signature strokes and styles" of the players are indeed true.

The trailer looks ok, plenty of realism with the correct tournaments, sponsors etc. I still can't decide whether or not to get this or SCT3. At the moment the more realistic look of TS3 gives it the edge (I am a casual tennis fan, so issues like whether or not Roddick has the correct serve don't really bother me that much).

I will. I still believe/hope that the UK company 2k got to do the trailer was given the footage to use a while back, so the updated gameplay is not seen in the video, because earlier builds were used. Let's pass judgment just yet.

Can't hurt to be optimistic, right?

BTW- I don't think Ronnie is the one I'll be talking to about these issues. He canceled on me for Monday because the PM couldn't meet with me. I don't know if it's formal operation for the PM to meet with testers who are doing reviews for game sites, or if he just wanted to discuss some of the issues from the petition. Monday can't come fast enough though.

They got many things wrong in the game :(

1) Haas hitting two-handed backhand :o He has one-handed in a real life
2) Vaidisova with a dark hair? She's blonde and always has been
3) Mauresmo hitting two-handed backhand? They had her one-handed in TS2 and should be the same in TS3

I just don't understand the wait for all of this. And, I do agree that most of the serve motions appear to be the same. Only Federer seems to have signature serve and other motions.

A poster on another site actually got to sit in on a conference call with Anthony Deluca. Here are some of his notes.

"Each player has their own signature styles, the animations and abilities that define them in real life. They’ll be unique to each one and you can capitalize on them if you know the players well."

"When it comes to putting together the roster it is a more intensive process than the games that have player’s associations. Where they get the license and have all (with the exception of a handful in the MLB) the players available here 2K Sports has to negotiate with each individual player. It was stated that the process went smoother than expected and they were able to sign many of the players they desired. As a note, Rafael Nadal being exclusive to the PS3 is due to a deal Nadal had made with Sony prior to being entered in Top Spin 3. All players will be available to use (no forced unlocking of them)."

"Online play (not offered with the Wii version) will debut the “World Tour” which is essentially a cycle of two week tournaments and leaderboards. The nice thing is that you can start fresh every two weeks instead of entering the game and realizing you have no shot at reaching the heights that have already been set. Ranked games will be available for singles matches but not doubles and there is no online co-op (framerate and lag were cited as the reasons but that excuse is getting flimsy). Downloadable content will be coming down the line and offering things such as new players, equipment, and clothing."

That's it. The downloadable players better not be fictitious 2k made players or NBA, MLB, NFL athletes.

Everyone does have their signature serve, or something that resembles it. But the Federer backhand is the same for all one-handers, I think. And the forehand is the same way. When I saw Federer hit a forehand, I thought it was great. Then you see Roddick hit the same stroke, and you know something isn't right.

Are we missing something? All the previews say that when you create your player, you also chose their stroke types as well. So if that is true, why would all the pros have the same swings?

It is not so much about it being perfect; nothing can be totally perfect - each potential buyer will always like more nuances or tidbits. The issues are signature moves, swings, and animations, which 2K declares will be present. The evidence so far shows otherwise.

That fact coupled with a poor roster, suspicious gameplay, Wimbledon, and other facets of tennis will lead to people being angry - and maybe chose to not buy TS3.

Again, VT3, and even SCT3 (whose budget fails in comparison to TS3), have signature moves, shots, and animations.

2K has no excuse.

I agree, Top Spin 3 graphically is much better than Smash court 3, which looked quite jerky in the animations apart from strokes. TS3 could learn some lessons in copying player styles and courts though.

after that new SCT video I must say that it looks very arcade. the graphics are way behind top spin 3.
it looks a bit like virtua tennis and because of that it´s nothing for me.
haven´t ever played it but just after watching that video I had to get rid of these thoughts.
And yes the guys from 2k should still improve the animations, I liked federes backhand very much though. roddicks serve is great too.
but I think no tennis game coming out in the next year will be better gameplay-wise than TS3.

but come on 2k.please get those animation right, if u promise lots of signature moves...
and even the celebration thing. that´s important too...

wow that smash court vid looks awesome.....who was complaining about the player models??? Those look great,and im lovin the dubai sky court(you can even see down to the beach and hotels below!! so much detail).......i see they still have slow serves though

I hope so that the cpu was set on easy, if that's not the case that's a letdown.
I understand how the moves can't be 100% true to the realy players (because they wseren't motion captured but other pros imitated them), but when you think about it other games like Smash Court and Virtua Tennis 3 did the job pretty well without boasting about the most realistic tennis game to date. Do you see what I mean?

Also something I don't understand are the grunts and screams of the players. How can't they make it right? Even as a male I can imitate Sharapova pretty well! lol Joke aside, why don't they sample them from any match they play? Usually there isn't any noise and you can sample and edit in a music program very easily. I can do that and I'm not a music and sounds engineer for a video game company.

Another thing I notice in the new videos and the intro of the game: We have AGAIN the same lame celebrations for different players and that's just not right. How often did you see Federer behave like that? Or Roddick doing the fist pump like Nadal? Come on! What's this joke? It should be even easier to motion capture tennis players imitate real pros celebration than doing the same for the strokes... oh wait, they didn't got it right neither. lol

Well... we could say that the player's strokes don't seem right because they don't know how to play, but as someone else said the cpu doesn't seem to know how to play as well then. And THAT'S SCARY. If when we play against cpu everything looks awkward, we'll really have trouble getting the feeling to play against the pros.
But in one of the newest videos, i saw federe's forehand which looked close to reality...

And for the people saying it's just a game, you're a joke. We PAY to get the game. Also the developers said many times how great and realistic the game is. So it's their fault to put our hopes up and it's not surprising people get disapointed when they can't deliver.

CyBjorn, Nalbandian in that shot looks absolutely crappy. Its just denial if you think otherwise. And the animations thing is a disgrace....i mean Smash Court 3 has every pro's strokes,service motion,return stance,grunt etc(even for the no-names like Seppi and Krajicek);even Virtua Tennis 3 has the strokes and serve motions down for every individual pro.

Yet after all this talk and boasting from 2k about working with the pros, going into great detail to capture them and blah blah;all we get is generic clone strokes for majority of the pros-save the roger,rafa,maria and mayne justines(oh and the legends).....that UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I understand that they want to slow the gameplay down especially after TS2, but the game play in 3 seems to lack power, especially on serves.

In regards to Wimbledon, I don't think we can hold it against 2k; although they were in the previous installments. I fail to understand why institutions act miserly when it comes to their names and brand. Kudos for Nike, Wilson, and all the others for lending their brands.

After watching the Roddick/Becker video, I think it's safe to say that the players groundstrokes are pretty much the same. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Roddick's forehand in the game. I think his take back is cool, how he keeps his left hand on the throat. But unfortunately, it looks like his motion is like everyone else. I would expect the same for Nadal. And that's going to be really odd looking.

I emailed Ronnie about the Australia release date, so I will let you guys know what the deal is when I hear from him.

As for the player animations, I will definitely be bringing it up if I do talk to the PM. I know the people who are playing in the video have not played with these mechanics before, but if I play for a couple of hours while I'm there and the animations all look the same, I will have a lot to talk about. ;)

People i have a funny feeling it will be coming out on MAY 23 coz there statring to release new screens n videos prior to release so hopefully !!

And hopefully the people who are playing the game are pish and the game will run smoothly once youve mastered the controlls !!! hahaha

I LOVE THIS GAME. the new videos are amazing. The character creator is really nice. in Top Spin 2 there was no make - up or forehand backhand and more. I like the haircuts...but i have to wait for PC version..:(

I contacted a guy from ebay who is selling top spin3 and he said he will get the game on 25 may at the latest and then ship it over to germany.

even at IGN the austrlia release is 23 may..
they can´t be all wrong...

maybe thats a question bryan needs to aks too...

bryan it would be great if u could make a list of most of the questions and then ask them about it. because otherwise we hardly get information...

That realy does it, have you guys seen the new ign vids? Look at ancic serve and strokes i mean could they be more off than that? When i first saw the Blake forehand look so bad i asumed it was just because he was out of position or bad timing or whatever but that clearly isent the case here. I thought that they would make up for the poor rooster by making every player more detalied in all aspects just like they said they would. But that obiusly wasent true since the strokes are way off.

I know, I know, we all wanted this game to be PERFECT, but I now realize that I can live with just GREAT, and this game looks great doesn't it? 2K has done a great job considering the budget they've been dealt. The dynamics in this game are way ahead of the rest of the field and it's not perfect but that's because its new. I'm already excited about TopSpin 4 because I know TS3 is gonna sell big and when games sell big, their sequels usually get a larger budget.

Why doesn't Sharapova grunt as she really grutns? Is it so diffucult to put it in the game? When you hear her it looks like other think. Details like this are much more important than they think... Disappointed

PS3 games are region free Manuel but its not coming out here on 23 May, I guarantee you. Look at the Australian version of the official playstation site and go to release schedule. Its coming out in June. The chances that we would get a game before everyone else are extremely small. Also Manuel, I thought that the PS3 and 360 versions of FIFA08 were exactly the same pretty much. Can't see any graphical differences.

I'm happy if Federer has a rating of 74 only if Roddick has a rating of about 67 which he doesn't.

the game is being released in australia on the 22 of may i have orded a copy don,t now why its being delayed eleswhere thay have finished the game the graphics look great and the character models are the best i have seen in a tennis game justine henin should have a higher ranking than sharapova she has won seven grand slams compared to sharapove how only has three i,m surprised wimbleton is not in the game

I think the overall is god.. Just because your created player only can be 70.. then is fair if u play online with your player.
